Joe Bergman Dies Of Sudden Stroke

Services for Joe Bergman were held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial was in the Stout cemetery.

Mr. Bergman passed away at age 74 at the Grundy County Memorial hospital Sunday afternoon of an apparent stroke.

He was born April 18, 1898 in Beaver Twp., Grundy Co., Iowa. He was the son of Jacob and Susie Meester Bergman. On Feb. 16, 1927 at Holland he was united in marriage to Jennie Hoodjer. They lived near New Hartford for about six years and came to Grundy Center in 1934. He was an implement dealer and bought and sold livestock.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie; two sons, Jake, of Grundy Center, and Norman, of Waverly; one daughter, Mrs. Max (Lillian) Appel, Grundy Center; three brothers, George, of Grundy Center, Andrew of Parkersburg, and Theodore of Cedar Falls; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Nevenhoven of Grundy Center, Mrs. Oscar Miller of New Hartford, Mrs. William Dreesman of Cedar Falls and Mrs. George Pothast of Dike and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Don Heikens, Larry Everts, Leslie Hoodjer, Duane Nevenhoven, Robert Bergman and Roger Bergman. Mrs. Roger Stachour sang selected hymns and was accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Appel.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
