Obituary of Miss Mae DeBeer

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Stout Reformed Church with Rev. Paul Tanis officiating. Burial was in the Stout cemetery.

Mrs. Bernard Schnell was organist and Mrs. Roger Bergman and Mrs. Melvin DeGroot sang "The Light of Home" and "At the End of the Road".

Casket bearers were Henry Bolhuis, Bob Bergman, Harold Eiklenborg, Paul Aswegan, Harry Hemmen and Elvin Wiese.

She was born on April 28, 1891 in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county. Her parents were Peter and Fannie Johnson DeBeer.

The DeBeer family lived on the place where Mae was born and then for a few years lived on a farm near Parkersburg, and moved into Stout in 1900.

Mae was hospitalized at Allen Memorial in Waterloo on Sept. 6, 1970 and about six weeks later became a resident at Maple Manor Nursing Home at Aplington where she passed away on Jan. 4th at the age of 80 years, eight months and six days.

She was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout and was very active as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a charter member of the Women's Guild.

She served as postmistress at Stout for about 14 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents in 1951, and a sister, Margaret. Surviving are three brothers, Harry, Sioux Falls, S.D.; John, Stout; Rev. Peter DeBeer, Sun City, Arizona; and a sister, Mrs. Anne Krebs, St. Paul, Minn.
