John Arends Funeral Wednesday At Stout
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday in the Gospel Hall at Stout for John W. Arends, 86, of Waterloo, a former resident of Stout. Burial was in the Stout cemetery.
Arends died Sunday morning in Allen Memorial hospital of complications due to his advanced age. He had been in failing health the past two months.
He was born Nov. 14, 1876, in Logan county, Ill., the son of Dade and Ella Harms Arends. As a child he moved to Grundy county with his parents. On Feb. 21, 1906, he married Swantje Arends in Grundy county. Following their marriage they farmed near Stout, moving to Waterloo in 1929. He was employed as a stone mason for the Waterloo Memorial Co. for many years. Later he was a fireman for the Russell-Lamson hotel until he retired 11 years ago.
Survivors include his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Albright, Waterloo; Mrs. Mason Scofield, Evansdale; Mrs. Harry Huss, New Lennox, Ill.; one son, Donald, Springfield, Ill.; one brother, George, Dike; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
