Henry Arends Dead Of Cancer

A large group of friends and relatives attended the funeral services for Henry Edward Arends which was held at the Dike Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, May 21, at 2:00. Prayer services were held at the home at 1:45.

Rev. Harry Gleim of the Dike Methodist Church and Rev. Calvin Siemsen of the Presbyterian Church of Ackley were in charge of the services. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves who were accompanied by Mrs. Joseph Bohr as organist, sang two numbers. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Clifford Gregory and Mrs. Jack Heritage. Casket bearers were Grant Arends, Leland Arends, Marlyn Arends, Joe Arends and Delbert Arends. Burial was in the Stout cemetery.

Relatives attending the services from a distance were from Hampton, Iowa, and Rochester, Chatfield and Stewartville, Minnesota.

Mr. Arends died at his home in Dike Thursday morning, May 19, of carcinoma. He was 45 years of age.

Edward was born March 15, 1915, the son of Heilko and Emma Arends in Fairfield township of Grundy County. He married Angeline Smeins on September 26, 1940. Edward lived his entire life in the Dike vicinity, farming for four years and later working as a trucker. The last two years he was employed at the Dike Farmers Cooperative Elevator.

He is survived by his wife, three children at home, Norman, Roger and Lynda; one sister, Mrs. Harold Cummings of near Dike. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Belva Cummings.
