Herman Ostendorf Dies At Hospital

Herman Ostendorf, a long time resident of Grundy county, died in the Grundy County Memorial Hospital last Friday evening. He was brought to the hospital earlier in the week, where he submitted to surgery. He had been afflicted with ulcers. He was 85 years old.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home at Parkersburg where funeral arrangements were made. Services were at the Reformed church at Stout Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the cemetery at Stout. The services were conducted by Rev. Roskamp, pastor of the Reformed church at Stout.

Mr. Ostendorf was a native of Germany. He came to this county and to Grundy county at the age of 15. He was employed on Grundy county farms. He was born September 9, 1874.

He and Sadie Sonnenberg were married and started life together in 1902 on a farm in Beaver twp. The wife died fifteen years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Ostendorf moved to the town of Stout after they left the farm. The past six years he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Jake Hemmen, and family, who live two miles south of Stout.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jake Hemmen and Mrs. Carl Kroemer, Waterloo. One son, Harm, resides in Grundy Center. Other surviving members of the family are one brother, Harm of Stewartville, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Anna Nicklaus, Parkersburg. There are six surviving grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
