John E. Miller Dies of Cancer

John Miller, 58, died last Wednesday at his home at Dike of cancer.

John Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Evert Miller, was born Oct. 4, 1896 in Grundy county. He lived on the farm with his parents during his early years, getting his schooling in local grade schools.

In 1923 he was married to Miss Rena Ross of Wellsburg. There the deceased was employed at road work. To this union there was born one son, Edward, now living in Cedar Falls.

The last 13 years Mr. and Mrs. Miller lived in Dike. There in the spring of this year John became afflicted with cancer which claimed his life. He became rapidly worse and during the last month suffered severely at times. His illness confined him to his bed during the last weeks and the final summons came on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Surviving the deceased are the following: His wife, Rena, his son, Edward. His mother, Mrs. Evert Miller; five sisters: Lettie, at home; Pearl (Mrs. Henry Kapper) at New Hartford; Katie (Mrs. Joe Eckhoff) at Shell Rock; Marie, at home, and one adopted sister, Fannie (Mrs. Rudolf Hook) at La Porte City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Pearl, who died in infancy.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the John Doyen home and later at the Stout Reformed Church in charge of Rev. A. Roskamp. Burial was in the Stout cemetery.

Pall bearers were William Stickfort, Tom Heronimus, Clarence Bergman, Lawrence Murphy, George Heronimus and Tom Meyers.
