Obituary Of Edzard Tapper

Edzard H. B. Tapper was born in Emden, Germany, Jan. 27th, 1884. After serving in the Navy for three years, he came to America and located at Parkersburg, Iowa, in 1907, where he was employed in a meat market for several years.

Feb. 22, 1911, he was united in marriage to Catherina Diekhoff. Four sons were born to this union: Theodore of Waterloo; Otto of Parkersburg; Harvey of Grundy Center, and Melvin. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 3, 1936, and by the son Melvin in December 1931, at the age of nearly 6 years; also by his parents, one sister and one brother.

He was engaged in farming for 33 years near Stout. He was a member of the Reformed church of Stout.

After his marriage to Alice Miller in December, 1944, the couple moved to Waterloo, where he was employed at John Deere's until his retirement in October of 1952.

The end came suddenly, after a short confinement with flu and heart trouble, on Mar. 10.

He reached the age of 69 years, 1 month and 11 days.

Surviving are his widow, three sons, three granddaughters and four grandsons, besides many relatives and friends.

Short services conducted by Dr. Dierenfield were held at the home Friday, March 13, and continued in the Reformed church in Stout where Rev. W. J. Heyenga officiated. Burial was in the family lot in the Stout cemetery.
