C. A. Hessenius Dies Following Long Illness

C. A. Hessenius, former Stout business man and a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died Saturday evening, June 24, after a lingering illness with hardening of the arteries that had sapped his strength for several years. Two years ago he fell and broke his hip, at which time he spent several weeks in the Cedar Falls hospital. For more than two years he was bedfast, but bore his suffering with great patience. During the time of his illness he was faithfully cared for by his now bereaved wife.

Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon and later at the Reformed church in Stout. Interment was in the Stout cemetery.

Casper Hessenius, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hagen Hessenius, was born on a farm near Stout, July 16, 1880. On July 4, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Hempen of Stout. They immediately moved into their new home, which had been built here earlier in the year, and they continued to live here until death called him to the great beyond. He reached the age of 63 years, 11 months and 22 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters. Surviving are his widow and four brothers: Henry, of Gary, So. Dak.; Ned of Brownsdale, Minn.; Dick and Ben Hessenius of Stout; his aged mother-in-law, Mrs. John Hempen, and several nephews and nieces.
