Koert Miller, Grundy Pioneer, Died Friday

Koert Miller, a resident of Grundy county for almost seventy years, died at his home in Stout Friday evening of a heart ailment of about six weeks' duration. He was in his 88th year.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the home, followed by a service at the Reformed church in Stout. Burial was in the family lot in the Stout cemetery.

Koert Miller was born at Uttum, Eastfriesland, Germany. At the time of his death he was aged 87 years, 8 months, 19 days.

At the age of 20 years he emigrated to the United States, coming to Grundy county. He was twice married. He was first married to Etta Klaassen. To this union were born five children, four daughters and one son. They are: Mrs. Rikus Pothast, New Hampton; Mrs. Andrew Krueger, Ackley; Mrs. Rikus Seehusen, Grundy Center; Jake, who died at the age of 29 years, and the youngest, a girl, died in infancy shortly after the death of the mother.

On Oct. 12, 1897, he was married to Carrie Meyer. To them were born ten children, eight daughters and two sons. They are Alice; Mrs. Harm Rademaker; Mrs. Jake Peters; Mrs. Peter Sorensen of Cedar Falls; Mrs. William Grimm of Waterloo; Mrs. Earl Young of Parkersburg; Carrie, at home; Kort in the Navy; Oscar of Stout; and one daughter died in infancy.

In 1916 the family left the farm and moved to Stout.

Mr. Miller was a charter member of the Reformed church of Stout, which he also served as deacon from 1910 to 1920.

Surviving are the widow and children, 32 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
