Delbert C. Harken, 81, of Ackley, died Friday, Dec. 2, at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.

He was born April 7, 1924, in Austinville, son of Corneal and Edna Oelmann Harken. He married Dolores Halloran on Sept. 8, 1947, at West Friesland Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death.

He graduated from Ackley High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy from May 1943 to February 1946 in Normandy, Southern France, Okinawa and Guam. Mr. Harken was postmaster from 1958 to 1967, a cashier and vice president of the Ackley State Bank from 1967 to 1995 and a Realtor with Ackley State Bank from 1995 to 2000. He also was past president of the Rotary Club.

Survived by: a son, Delton of Clive; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a daughter-in-law, Darla Harken of Urbandale; and two sisters-in-law, Marian Harken of Parkersburg and Patricia Schurman of Aplington.

Preceded in death by: a son, Dennis; a daughter, Jolene Harken; and a brother, Richard.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Ackley, with burial in the West Friesland Cemetery.
