Robert A. "Bob" Harken, 84, of Ackley died Tuesday, March 14, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born April 26, 1921, in Austinville, son of Reemt and Ipina Jansonius Harken. He married Viola Jane Williams on June 14, 1958, in Middlesex, N.Y.

Mr. Harken graduated from Aplington High School, the University of Dubuque and received his master's degree in education administration from the Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley, Colo. He served in the Army-Air Force. He had been a buttermaker, teacher, school administrator and insurance and real estate salesman.

Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Patti (Bruce) Cunyus of Kilgore, Texas, and Jeanne (Kevin) Giles of Robins; five grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Ontjes of Bella Vista, Ark., and Bernice (Paul) Rewerts of Grundy Center; and three sisters-in-law, Louise Harken of Boone, Elma Harken of Waterloo and Hilda Ingram of Penn Yan, N.Y.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Margery Schaap and Anna Marie Younker; and four brothers, John, Urban, Fred and Cornelius.

Services: March 17, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Ackley, with burial in West Friesland Cemetery, Ackley. Full military rites were provided by Elliott-Keninger Post 252. Sietsema Funeral Home, Ackley, was in charge of arrangements.
