Lester E. Neymeyer, 88, of Aplington, died Thursday, Aug. 17, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.
He was born July 27, 1918, in rural Grundy County, son of John and Elizabeth Harken Neymeyer. He married Stella Eekhoff on Dec. 27, 1946, at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, Ackley.
He graduated from Aplington High School in 1936 and from DMACC in nursing home administration in 1974. Mr. Neymeyer served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 in the 34th Infantry Division in North Africa and Italy.
He was a retired farmer and was administrator at the Presbyterian Village, Ackley, from 1975 to 1981.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Leland (Elaine) of Aplington; five daughters, Marcia (Merle) Westgate of Ames, Paulette (Peter) Teague of Lancaster, Pa., Dorothea (Bob) Kampman of Kesley, Ilene (Jim) Boelman of Cedar Falls and Jean (Russ) Jungling of Iowa Falls; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Emery of Greene; a sister, Bette Jo Knock of Pella; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Neymeyer of Aplington; and a brother-in-law, Reuben Estrada of Bella Vista, Ark.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Wayne; a sister, Irene Estrada; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday at West Friesland Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorial fund: has been established.
