Services Held For Nancy Riebkes

Nancy Riebkes, of Wellsburg, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, November 28, 1996, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, having attained the age of 91 years, seven months and 15 days.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 2, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Vance Elzinga officiating. Pallbearers were Harold Duhn, Roger Gelder, Dean Werkman, Brian Launderville, Leland Gelder and Alan Duhn. Burial followed in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Ackley.

Born April 13, 1905, in rural Aplington, Nancy was the daughter of Harm A. and Christina (Arends) Janssen. On November 26, 1924, she was united in marriage to Bert M. Riebkes at the home of her parents in Aplington by Rev. Johnson. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm northwest of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with four daughters. In February of 1962, they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

The couple were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on November 23, 1974, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Mrs. Riebkes was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church and the Ladies Aid. Her hobbies included crocheting and quilt-making.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bert; one sister, Jennie Janssen Harken; one grandchild; one great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Angeline Duhn and husband Harry, Kathleen Gelder and husband Leonard and Ruth Janssen and husband Marvin, all of Wellsburg, and Judy Launderville and husband Paul of Denison; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
