Robert "Bob" Gene Kono, age 64, of Aplington died March 31, 2006 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI, due to injuries sustained from an accidental fall. Funeral services were April 4 at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church in Ackley. Interment was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Robert was born on January 1, 1942, the son of Robert and Jean (Snow) Kono. Bob grew up in the Cedar Falls area where he received his education. Bob served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962 in the 86th Airborne in Germany. He was united in marriage with Sheryl Groeneveld on May 5, 1990.

He was preceded in death by his father; his mother; his step-father; and a grandson.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sheryl; five children, Todd Kono, Bobbie (Jon) O'Brien, Terry (Teresa) Gnade, Steve (Amanda) Kono, and Kelly Kono; four step-children, Dan Groeneveld, Dee (Greg) Priske, Dennis (Kelly) Groeneveld, and Duane (Melanie) Groeneveld; four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; one brother, Bill (Bev) Kono; one sister, Kay (Bud) Sutherland; his mother-in-law, Rena DeBoer; and many nieces and nephews.
