Mrs. Janssen Services Held
Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Janssen of 416 Cerro Gordo Street, Ackley, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, 1983 in the Faith Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Janssen had been in failing health for the past two years, after suffering a heart attack. In this period she was a resident of Maple Manor for about 15 months. She died at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at 6:12 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 1983, where she had been a patient since May 1st. She reached the age of 77 years, seven months, and eight days.
Organist at the services was Darlene Heetland and the singers were Bernice Bangasser and Wanda Fritz. They sang "One Day At A Time" and "It Is Not An Easy Road." Casketbearers were: Donald Boldt, Virgil Heetland, Albert Borchers, Merlin Bangasser, Verne Oelmann, and Ronald Rieken. Interment was in the West Friesland Cemetery, rural Ackley. Rev. Jack Mayfield officiated.
Henrietta was born the daughter of Henry and Grace Hemmen Kolthoff in German township, Grundy County near Ackley on November 11, 1905. She attended rural school near her home.
On September 3, 1925, Henrietta was united in marriage to Henry V. Janssen in the parsonage of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley. This union was blessed with seven children: five sons, Virgil, Delmar, Marvin, Kenneth, and Vernon; and two daughters, Agnes and Carol. They farmed in Butler and Grundy County following their marriage and then purchased their farm southeast of Ackley in 1944. They retired and moved to their present home in Ackley in 1967.
Mrs. Janssen was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley.
Henrietta is survived by her husband, Henry V. Janssen of Ackley; five sons, Virgil and Delmar of Ackley, Marvin, Kenneth, and Vernon of Wellsburg; two daughters, Agnes (Mrs. Ralph) Ward of Marshalltown and Carol (Mrs. Ronald) Glenn of Ackley; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Harken of Geneva and Mrs. Jeanette Wood of Ackley; and a brother, Kobus Kolthoff of Wellsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
