John V. Janssen Dies At Hampton
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 24, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ for John V. Janssen, who passed away July 20 at the Hampton Nursing Home. Rev. Stephen Hussing officiated and interment was in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
John V. Janssen, the son of Venno and Hilke (Harken) Janssen, was born October 6, 1907, on a farm in Grundy county. He farmed in Butler and Grundy counties until retiring five and a half years ago when they moved to Ackley.
He was married to Lenora DeVries on March 1, 1928 at the West Friesland Parsonage. From that union, there are two daughters, Mrs. Elwin (Irene) Finger of Aplington and Mrs. Janice Wessels of Ackley.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora; his two daughters, three brothers, Henry, Isebrandt and Wallace, all of Ackley; two sisters, Sadie Nevenhoven of Aplington and Mrs. Lester (Helena) Jansonius of Ackley; a sister-in-law, Etta Janssen of Aplington; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, a sister, Nancy Miller, and a brother, Carl.
