Jurjen DeBoer Services Held
Jurjen (Jerry) DeBoer was born the son of William and Mary Koppedryer DeBoer on June 24, 1909 in Butler county. He attended school in Aplington.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 1981, in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kenneth A. Remer officiating.
Mrs. Lester Neymeyer was the organist and Pastor Remer, Tim Remer and Beth Remer sang. The congregation sang a recessional hymn, "Lord, I'm Coming Home." Casketbearers were Mike, Dave and Jeff Becker, Dalon and Brian DeBoer and Dan Groeneveld. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
On June 30, 1930, Jerry was united in marriage to Rena Flesner in her parents' home in Aplington. This union was blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters. Following their marriage they farmed in the Buck Grove area and from 1940 to 1974 they farmed south of Aplington. Upon retiring they moved to their present home in Aplington.
Mr. DeBoer was an active member of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley. He served as deacon, elder and trustee.
Jerry died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 1981 in his home. He had suffered from cancer for about four months.
He is survived by his wife Rena; two sons, Ronald DeBoer of Parkersburg and Jerald DeBoer of Hubbard; two daughters, Marian, Mrs. Daryl Becker of Lucas, and Sheryl, Mrs. David Groeneveld of Aplington; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons; one sister, Grace, Mrs. John Abbas of Wellsburg and two brothers, George and William DeBoer both of Aplington. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Henry Wayne, two grandchildren, one brother, John, and one sister, Tillie.
Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Chapel in Aplington was in charge of arrangements.
