Mrs. Deters Is Buried At Area Cemetery Friday

Mrs. Henry Deters passed away at Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa Falls on Tuesday morning, Dec. 20, 1977 at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 22 days.

Services were held Dec. 23, 1977, at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kenneth Remer officiating and Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Katie Gieken, the daughter of Hendrick and Anna Lauterbach Geiken, was born April 28, 1891, in Emden, Germany. At the age of one, she came to America and with her family they settled at Austinville, Iowa.

In 1909, she married Henry E. Deters and they made their home farming in the Ackley area, except for three years near Dexter, Minn. In 1941, they moved to Ackley, Ia.

With her husband, Mrs. Deters confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church of Ackley in 1913 where she remained a faithful member until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, one brother, her husband in 1942, and one infant grandson.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Gertrude) Fritz of Ackley and Mrs. Albert (Anna) Kruse of Ackley, three sons, Richard Deters of Alden, Henry Deters of Ackley, and Jack Deters of Wellsburg; also 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Dena Caine of Hemet, California.

Music was given by a quartet, Mrs. Chris Ridder, Mrs. Wane Neymeyer, John V. Janssen and Rev. Kenneth Remer. Mrs. Verlynn Willms was organist. Pallbearers were Ronald Kruse, Darwin Deters, Lester Weber Jr., Tim Fritz, Merrill Fritz and Tim Turner.

Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home of Ackley was in charge of arrangements.
