Rena DeBoer, 100, of Aplington, died Friday, June 15, at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Aplington, of natural causes.
She was born Sept. 20, 1906, in Grundy County, Buck Grove, Aplington, daughter of Henry and Rixtelena Emkes Flesner. She married Jurjen "Jerry" DeBoer, Jan. 30, 1930, at her parents' home in rural Aplington. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1981.
She received her education in a rural country school near her home. She and her husband farmed in the Wellsburg area and later near Aplington, retiring in April 1975.
Preceded in death by: a son, Henry; a daughter, Marian Becker; two grandchildren; a brother, Harm Flesner; and two sisters, Gesina Tjaden and Fannie Lindaman.
Survived by: two sons, Ronald (Maxine) of Parkersburg and Jerald (Ruth) of Ames; a daughter, Sheryl Kono of Aplington; a son-in-law, Daryl Becker of Lucas; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Henrietta Nevenhoven.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, with burial in the West Friesland Cemetery, both in rural Ackley. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
