Services For Mary Boekhoff Held Friday

Funeral services for Mary Boekhoff, 94, of Wellsburg, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Wellsburg Reformed Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Boekhoff passed away Wednesday, April 20, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital due to complications of age.

The Rev. Roger D. Huitink officiated the service.

Casket bearers were grandsons Jeff Boekhoff, Marvin Boekhoff, Donald Boekhoff, Steve Kannegieter, Ronnie Lentz, Craig Hippen, Roger VanHeiden, Duane Tjaberling and Harold Johnson.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Keith Huisman and Mrs. Harold Fischer. Ushers were Dale Murray and Edwin Behrends.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born November 6, 1893, in rural Ackley, the daughter of Ella Klinkenberg Vanderwerf and Simon Vanderwerf. She received her education in rural Ackley schools.

She was married to John B. Boekhoff Sr. on October 10, 1912, at Parker, SD. The couple moved to Wellsburg shortly after the marriage.

Mary was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church and the American AMVET Auxiliary of Wellsburg.

She made her home in Wellsburg until January 1982 when she moved to the Long Term Care Center in Grundy Center.

She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Henry (Ella) Riebkes of Wellsburg, Mrs. Fred (Bertha) Kannegieter of Waterloo, Mrs. John (Carrie) Wehrman of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Delbert (Grace) Hippen of Wellsburg, Mrs. Dale (Esther) Smith of Conrad, and Mrs. Carroll (Marlys) Clark of Keokuk; and three sons, Ernest of Aplington, George and Arnold of Wellsburg.

Also surviving are three step-daughters, Fannie Johnson of Sauk Rapids, SD, Mrs. George Tjaberling of Parkersburg, and Jannie VanHeiden of Wellsburg; and two step-sons, Ben Boekhoff of Aplington and Dick Boekhoff of Sauk Rapids, SD.

Mary also is survived by 48 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1958; four sons, John Jr., Sam, Albert and Lawrence; two daughters, Lorraine Boekhoff and Evelyn Lentz; and one step-daughter in infancy.

The family has established a memorial fund.

Relatives from a distance who attended funeral services for Mrs. Mary Boekhoff were Peter and Elizabeth Vanderwerf, Lester and Marion Vanderwerf, and Mrs. Elsie Schwartz all of Springfield, MN; Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Waters, Mrs. Shirley Nelson, Paul and Ann DeYoung all of Sioux Falls, SD; Mrs. Alice Huil of Humboldt, SD; Mr. and Mrs. Marlen Johnson of Brooklyn Center, MN; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson of Rice, MN; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Boekhoff of St. Cloud, MN, and Mrs. Grace Vanderwerf of Canton, SD.
