Services Held For Fred Luppen

Fred J. Luppen, age 74, of Wellsburg, Iowa, passed away at his home on Friday morning, May 13, 1988, from a heart condition.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed Church of rural Wellsburg, Iowa, at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 16, 1988. The Rev. Thomas J. Vos was the officiating clergyman.

"The Messenger Quartet" composed of Arnold Eiten, Melvin Haupt, Richard Schafer and Lary Riebkes, sang two selections, "How Great Thou Art" and "Each Step I Take." They were accompanied by Mrs. LuRay Meyer.

The organist was Elizabeth Eekhoff, who accompanied the congregation singing "By the Sea of Crystal." She also played the Prelude and the Postlude on the organ.

Casket bearers were Eldon Nederhoff, Mike Nederhoff, Harvin Meyer, Larry Meyer, Gary James and Leland Luwe.

Flower ladies were Mrs. Chris Christians and Mrs. ? Kolthoff.

Ushers were Edwin Bakker and Lee Bakker.

Burial was in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.

Fred Jans Luppen was born on March 10, 1914 in rural Shiloh Township, Wellsburg, Iowa to Dirtje Mennenga and Hemmo Luppen.

He married Grace Nederhoff on September 11, 1935 in the parsonage of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, Iowa.

Fred and Grace farmed on the home place until 1978 when they retired from farming and moved into their home in Wellsburg.

Fred attended Shiloh #8 school. He was a member of the Board of Directors of The Peoples Savings Bank, Wellsburg, Iowa, a member of the Friendship Manor's Board of Directors, a past member of the First Christian Reformed Church Council and a Volunteer in Action for Grundy County.

Fred and Grace joined the First Christian Reformed Church on July 3, 1938. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Hannah (Mrs. Harm) Meyer.

He is survived by his wife Grace, a daughter Erma (Mrs. Ronald) Klaasen of Wellsburg, and two grandchildren, Laura and Brian of Wellsburg.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
