Lee Claassen, 43, Dies at Evansdale
LeeRoy Claassen, 43, former Grundy county resident, died unexpectedly late Saturday afternoon of a heart attack at his home in Evansdale.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home in Waterloo, with burial in the First Christian Reformed church cemetery west of Wellsburg.
Mr. Claassen had been in his usual good health at the time of his fatal attack, and death came as a shock to his entire family.
Shortly after 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon he stepped outside his house to talk with a caller, and when he returned he complained of a pain in his chest. A doctor was summoned, who was attending him at the time of his death about 6 o'clock. The physician said death was probably caused by a heart attack, but that an autopsy would be performed.
LeeRoy Claassen was born July 17, 1914, on a farm west of Wellsburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Claassen. He married Peggy Kloberdanz on June 21, 1948, in Missouri.
At the time of his death, Mr. Claassen was employed as inspector at the Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo. He served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his widow; his father, who makes his home with a daughter in Marshalltown, but who was spending the holidays in the LeeRoy Claassen home at the time of his death.
Also surviving are a brother, Dick Claassen of Holland; and six sisters, Mrs. Pearl Meyer of Dike, Mrs. Harm (Ada) Klunder of Grundy Center, Mrs. Ben (Anna) Geerdes of near Wellsburg, Mrs. Albert (Bertha) Siefken of Marshalltown, Mrs. John (Lena) Fisher of Toledo, and Mrs. Harm R. (Charlotte) Rust of Grundy Center.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers, John and Fred.
