Jacob Bottema, longtime resident of Grundy county and for many years a resident of the Wellsburg vicinity passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Henze, on July 30. The last 17 months of his life he was bedfast. He was 87 years old on May 5th. Death was due to complications of old age.

Mr. Bottema was born in the Netherlands, but came to this country and to Lafayette, Indiana at the age of 23. Later he and his family moved to a farm five miles west of Dike where Mrs. Bottema died in 1916, leaving behind her husband and two small children, John, now of Whitten and Dora, (Mrs. Leman Sinclair, Pollock, Missouri) who survive. Another son died in infancy. In 1922 Mr. Bottema married Jennie Limberg, who also survives.

Funeral services were Friday afternoon at the Engelkes Funeral Home in Grundy Center with Rev. Donald Weydert in charge. Burial was in the First Christian Reformed cemetery west of Wellsburg by the side of his first wife and infant son. Rev. Visscher was in charge of the graveside services.
