Funeral Thursday For J. M. Bakker, Wellsburg Farmer
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the home northwest of Wellsburg and at 1 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed church for John M. Bakker, 71, who died Monday at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Bernard Visscher pastor of the First Christian Reformed Church, will officiate.
He had entered the hospital April 4 following a heart attack, and at the time of his unexpected death he was apparently making a satisfactory recovery.
John M. Bakker was born Sept. 15, 1885, in Colfax township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Menne Bakker. He passed away at the age of 71 years, 4 months, 14 days.
He was united in marriage to Martha Eekhoff on February 13, 1908. The couple farmed northwest of Wellsburg a number of years. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, which he had active served as a deacon and elder.
Surviving are the wife, a daughter, Genevieve and four sons, Peter and Edwin, all at home; Manly of Steamboat Rock; and Lee of Wellsburg; six grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Cooper of Steamboat Rock and Mrs. R. E. Blom of Lansing, Ill.; and two brothers, Peter and Harm, both of Steamboat Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, a daughter and a son.
