Ede Christians Laid To Rest Saturday

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 12:30 at the Marlin Harms home and later at the First Christian Reformed Church for Ede Christians. Rev. B. Visscher officiated at the services.

Casketbearers were Henry B. Primus, Charles Meints, Harry Eckhoff, George Meints, Dick Freese and George J. Geerdes. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Ede Christians was born in Bunde, Germany on July 7, 1977. He came to this country with his mother at the age of 14. In 1903 he was joined in holy wedlock with Miss Anna Eekhoff. They resided on a farm about five miles southwest of Wellsburg.

Their union was blessed with six children of which four survive. These include Martha, Mrs. Marlin Harms of Grundy Center; Anna, Mrs. August Ascher of Wellsburg; Arend Christians of Holland and Chris Christians of Steamboat Rock. There are also twelve grandchildren. His faithful wife and helpmate passed on in 1937.

Mr. Christians passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 1956 at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 5 days. He had suffered a blood clot the previous Sunday night which caused his death. For more than fifty years he was a confessing member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, where he also served in the consistory for many years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
