Funeral Saturday At W'burg Church For Ebbo Heikens
Funeral services for Ebbo Heikens were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral home and at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church.
The Rev. Harold Hollander was officiating clergyman.
Music was furnished by a men's quartet, Richard Schafer, Arnold Eiten, Melvin Haupt, and Larry Riebkes. Mrs. Henry L. Vandevoort was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Clifford Bergman and Mrs. Gary Fairbanks.
Pallbearers were Julius J. Heikens, Julius Wilts, Julius H. Heikens, Charles Kitzman, Melvin Nederhoff, and Donald Heikens. Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.
Mr. Heikens passed away Wednesday around 6 p.m. at his home in Wellsburg following a lingering illness. He reached the age of 80 years, 6 months and 27 days.
He was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, northwest of Wellsburg, on December 26, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Heikens (nee Henrietta Meyer). He attended the rural school in the area. On March 8, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Ross. Following their marriage they resided on the Heikens home place farm. This union was blessed with one daughter and one son. They retired from the farm in 1956 and moved to Wellsburg.
He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where he made confession of his faith. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on March 8, 1967, with their family and friends.
Those who preceded him in death were his parents, 2 brothers, Julius and Henry Heikens, 1 sister, Mrs. Anka Noordman, one sister in infancy and 2 brothers in infancy.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Minnie, a daughter, Henrietta, Mrs. Benjamin Primus of Eldora; a son, Evert Heikens of Wellsburg; 5 grandchildren; Roger Heikens and 5 great-grandchildren; also 2 brothers and 3 sisters: John Heikens of Wellsburg; (Margaret), Mrs. Gratus Wilts of Steamboat Rock; (Elsie), Mrs. William Wulf of Wellsburg; (Anna), Mrs. Henry Nederhoff of Ackley; Harry Heikens of Steamboat Rock and a host of other relatives and friends.
