Funeral Saturday For Obo Haupt

Funeral services for Obo Haupt were held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church.

Rev. Harold Hollander officiated. Music was given by a men's quartet, Claus G. Primus, Willis Bakker, Harvey Eiten and Alfred Eiten accompanied by Mrs. Claus G. Primus. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Fred Eiten and Mrs. Floyd Eiten.

Pall bearers were Kenneth Bunger, Wallace Haupt, Ralph Haupt, Raymond Haupt, Melvin Haupt, and Vernon Buse.

Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Mr. Haupt passed away shortly after 9 o'clock last Wednesday at the Eldora hospital. He had been taken to the hospital earlier in the morning. He reached the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 13 days.

He was born on December 31, 1880 in Wilhelmshafen, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August W. Haupt (nee Anna Inhoff). He received his early schooling in Germany. At the age of 13 years he with his parents and brother came to America. They settled in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, Iowa. He finished his education attending the Pine Creek rural school in the area.

On March 9, 1903, he was united in marriage to Swentje Nederhoff. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in Shiloh township southwest of Wellsburg. Their marriage was blessed with 2 daughters and 3 sons. In 1942, they retired and built a new home for themselves on their farm where they continued to live.

He was a long time member of the First Christian Reformed Church having made profession of faith in Jesus Christ on August 31, 1903. He served on the Church Consistory about 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife on January 8, 1952, his parents, and one brother, Henry, who passed away in 1927.

Those left to mourn his passing are 2 daughters and 3 sons, August of Wellsburg, Grace at home of Wellsburg, (Anna) Mrs. Lambert A. Bunger of Wellsburg, Oldig of Eldora, Henry of Wellsburg; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
