Will J. Janssen Passed Away At Grundy Hospital

Will J. Janssen passed away shortly after 3:00 o'clock Wednesday morning, April 24, 1968, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to a heart condition. He had been taken to the hospital for treatment on April 16th. He reached the age of 76 years, 1 month and 19 days.

He was born March 5, 1892, on a farm in Shiloh Township southwest of Wellsburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Janssen (nee Antje Primus). He attended the rural school in the area and also attended Steamboat Rock High School. On February 11, 1914 he was united in marriage to Ada Ruter. This union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. Following their marriage they lived in Eldora for one year and later lived on several farms in Shiloh Township southeast of Wellsburg. In 1949 they retired and moved to Wellsburg. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in February of 1964 with their family and friends.

He was a long time member of the First Christian Reformed church having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on Sept. 26, 1913. He served on the church consistory for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter in 1929, one grandson in infancy, 1 grandson, Elmer Williams in 1961, 1 sister, Henrietta Janssen, 2 brothers, Henry and Anko Janssen.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Ada, 1 daughter and 2 sons, John B. Janssen of Wellsburg; Mrs. Janet Williams of Wellsburg; 2 sisters and 2 brothers; (Helen) Mrs. Frank Schwirtz of Bellevue, Mrs. Elizabeth Rient of Waterloo, Claus B. Janssen of Steamboat Rock; Ben Janssen of Bellevue, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Will J. Janssen were held Friday afternoon, April 26, 1968 at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church.

Rev. Harold Hollander was officiating clergyman. Music was given by a men's quartet, Harvey Eiten, Alfred Eiten, Willis Bakker and Claus G. Primus accompanied by Mrs. Claus G. Primus. Mrs. Henry Vandevoort, Jr., was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John W. Ross and Mrs. Cordelia Vahlsing.

Pall bearers were George Janssen, J. Wayne Janssen, Alfred Janssen, John Schwirtz, Marlyn Eilers and Wayne Eilers. Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.
