George L. Meints Dies At Hospital

Funeral services for George L. Meints, 71, of rural Steamboat Rock, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Reformed Church.

Rev. Harold Hollander officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Meints died early Sunday morning at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital of carcinoma.

Prior to the service at the church, a memorial service was held at 1 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home.

Special music for the church service was provided by vocalists Richard Schafer and Arnold Eiten. Mrs. Henry Vandervoort Jr., was organist. Mrs. Edward Mennenga and Mrs. Christians were flower attendants.

Casket bearers were Edward Nederhoff, Stanley Nederhoff, LuVerne Freese, Darrell Freese, Melvin Jeske and Loren Jeske.

He was born on August 28, 1896 on a farm in Grundy County, southwest of Wellsburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig T. Meints (nee Flora Bakker). He attended the rural school in the area. He also attended the Grundy College.

George was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on August 26, 1918.

For many years he had made his home with Mrs. Louis Meints, Dennis and Lois, and for a month prior to his last hospitalization he had been cared for in the Larry Meints home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Charles, Willie, and Louis Meints, and a brother and sister in infancy.

Those who survive him are 3 sisters, (Grace), Mrs. John Heronimus of Wellsburg; (Ella), Mrs. Dick Freese of Steamboat Rock; (Jennie), Mrs. Marvin Jeske of Eldora; and several nieces and nephews.
