Funeral Monday At Wellsburg For Mrs. Freda Williams, 81
Funeral services were held at 1:15 p.m. Monday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church for Mrs. Freda Williams, 81, lifelong Wellsburg area resident.
Rev. John H. Elenbaas officiated at the service. Burial was in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.
Special music consisted of a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Leland Luwe, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Toomsen. Organist was Mrs. Wilbur Knock.
Flower attendants were Miss Alice Ruter and Mrs. John Ringena.
Casket bearers were Larry Williams, Marlyn Peters, Kenneth Cordes, James VanDeest, Harold Geerdes and Willard Riekena.
Mrs. Williams passed away at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital due to complications of age. She had entered the hospital Friday noon for treatment. She had spent three weeks previous in the Countryside Nursing Home.
She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Weert W. Riekena on September 24, 1885, on a farm in Shiloh Township, northwest of Wellsburg. She attended the rural school in the area.
In 1905 she was united in marriage to Jerry R. Williams, at the home of her parents. Following their marriage they lived on several farms in the area.
This union was blessed with two sons and two daughters. In 1943 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg. Mr. Williams passed away in April of 1950.
She was a long time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church having joined by transfer of membership from the First Christian Reformed Church on October 10, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sons, Will and Harry Williams, 2 grandsons, and one brother, Weert W. Riekena.
Those left to mourn her passing are two daughters: (Lena), Mrs. John Krull of Wellsburg, (Hilda), Mrs. Raymond Riebkes of Wellsburg; 2 sisters and 1 brother, Mrs. Trena Geerdes of Wellsburg, Mrs. Grace Lillibridge of Rockwell, Dick W. Riekena of Wellsburg; 1 step-sister (Florence), Mrs. Ray Gimer of Wellsburg; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
