Albert Geerdes Dies In Hospital; Funeral Saturday

Funeral services for Albert Geerdes, 80, a lifelong resident of Wellsburg, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 at the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Harold Hollander officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Special music during the funeral service was provided by a men's quartet composed of Willis Bakker, Alfred Eiten, Harvey Eiten, and Claus G. Primus accompanied by Mrs. Primus. Miss Elizabeth Primus was organist.

Casket bearers were Sherman Hook, Floyd Hook, Donald Geerdes, Tony Ackerman, Steven Slinker and Dale Geerdes.

Mrs. Tielko H. Bunger and Mrs. Harm C. Meyer were flower attendants.

Mr. Geerdes passed away at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He had been a patient in the hospital since February 10.

Albert Geerdes was born June 12, 1886 on a farm southwest of Wellsburg to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Geerdes (nee Wiebea Meyer). He received his education in the rural school of the area and attended the Grundy Center High School for one year.

On Jan. 28, 1909, he was married to Hilka Tjaden at the home of her parents. Following their marriage they began farming southwest of Wellsburg. In 1939 they retired and moved to Wellsburg. To this family were born four daughters and two sons. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Jan 28, 1959, with their family and friends. On Jan.29th of this year they were able to celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary. He was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church having made Confession of his Faith on March 12, 1919.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, George Geerdes, 1 grandchild in infancy, and 1 great-grandchild in infancy.

Those who mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Hilka, four daughters and 2 sons, Jake A. Geerdes of Wellsburg; (Tilda) Mrs. Raymond Hook of Aplington, Wayne Geerdes of Cedar Falls; (Gladys) Mrs. Herman Eckhoff of Wellsburg, (Vera) Mrs. Lawrence Ackerman of Iowa Falls; (Thelma) Mrs. Paul Slinker of Grundy Center, 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Alice Riekena of Wellsburg; Mrs. Gertie Neessen of Tipton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
