Funeral Services For J. G. Geerdes, Longtime Resident

Funeral services for Jake G. Geerdes were held this Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the home and later at the First Christian Reformed Church.

Rev. Harold Hollander officiated at the services. A men's quartet, Willis Bakker, Alfred Eiten, Harvey Eiten and Claus G. Primus sang two selections. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Ronald deNeui and Mrs. Harlyn Riekena.

Pall bearers were Gordon Geerdes, Don Geerdes, Bert Geerdes, Jonas Geerdes, Elmer Heetland and James Geerdes. Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.

Jake G. Geerdes passed away at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls due to a liver ailment. He reached the age of 61 years, 10 months and 10 days. He had entered the hospital for treatment on Jan. 18th.

He was born on a farm in Hardin County, northeast of Steamboat Rock, on March 18, 1905, to Mr. and Mrs. George J. Geerdes (nee Antje Riekena). He attended the rural school in the area. On March 2, 1932, he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Geerdes. Following their marriage they moved to a farm 3 miles west of Wellsburg, where they have since resided. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church having made Confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on May 11, 1949.

He was preceded in death by his father, who passed away in December of 1964.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Clara; his mother, Mrs. Antje Geerdes of Steamboat Rock; 3 sisters and 4 brothers: Ben G. Geerdes of Steamboat Rock, (Bessie), Mrs. Evert Bleeker of Steamboat Rock, Gratus G. Geerdes of Steamboat Rock, Edward C. Geerdes of Ackley, (Verna), Mrs. Abe Wilts of Ackley, Alfred G. Geerdes of Gladbrook, (Freda), Mrs. George W. Harms of Steamboat Rock and a host of other relatives and friends.
