Mrs. Henry Peters Dies After Surgery At D.M. Hospital
Funeral services for Mrs. Henry H. Peters were held last Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church.
The Rev. Harold Hollander officiated at the services.
Mrs. Henry L. Vandevoort was organist and accompanied a quartet Richard Schafer, Arnold Eiten, Lary Riebkes, and Melvin Haupt who sang. Flower attendants were Mrs. Edward Eckhoff and Mrs. Benjamin Primus.
Pall bearers were Arnold Tjepkes, Freeman Groote, Melvin Tjepkes, Bruno DeBeer, Koert Seehusen, and Richard Kubler. Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mrs. Peters passed away at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines due to complications following brain surgery performed the preceding Monday afternoon.
She had been taken to the Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown on March 10th for observation, and then on March 13th she transferred to the Iowa Methodist Hospital. She reached the age of 58 years, 8 months and 5 days.
She was born on a farm in Grundy County west of Dike, on July 17, 1910, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Tjepkes (nee Johanna Kramer). She attended the rural school in the area.
On December 1, 1931, she was united in marriage to Henry H. Peters. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Ackley. They lived on various farms in the area. They moved to their present farm place in 1959. This union was blessed with 3 sons.
Mrs. Peters was a long time member of the First Christian Reformed Church having been received into the congregation on April 18, 1943 by Letter of Transfer from the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church. She was also a member of the Queen Esther Circle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 1 brother in infancy and 1 sister in infancy.
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, 3 sons, Marlyn Peters of Eldora, Harlin Peters of Eldora, James Peters of Eldora; 5 grandchildren; 4 sisters and 1 brother: (Anna), Mrs. Elso Groote of Parkersburg; (Bena), Mrs. Paul Andreessen of Grundy Center; (Jennie), Mrs. George Smit of Holland; John Tjepkes of Ackley; Mrs. Greta Giese of Cedar Falls, and a host of other relatives and friends.
