C. Doolaard Died Sunday, Sept. 19, Funeral Sept. 22

Services for Cornelius C. Doolaard were held Wed., Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and then at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church, Rev. Harold Hollander as clergyman.

Mr. Doolaard passed away shortly after 9 o'clock Sunday morning, Sept. 19 at the Ellsworth hospital in Iowa falls due to a heart condition. He had been taken to the hospital late Saturday evening for treatment. He reached the age of 84 years, 2 months and 25 days.

Music was by a men's quartet composed of Harvey Eiten, Alfred Eiten, Willis Bakker and Claus G. Primus. Organist, Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff, accompanist Mrs. Claus G. Primus. Flower attendants were Mrs. Arend Fisher and Mrs. Okko Jaspers. Casket bearers were Arend Fisher, Okko Jaspers, Abe H. Jaspers, Coert H. Bunger, Ivan Jaspers and Harold Jaspers.

Interment was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.

Cornelius Doolaard was born on June 24, 1887, in the Netherlands, the son of Cornelius and Pearl Nella (Van T Hof) Doolaard. He received his education in the lower grades of the schools in The Netherlands. In 1906 at the age of 19 he came to America and settled at Parker, South Dakota. In 1910 he came to this area to make his home. On November 23, 1915 he was united in marriage to Miss Greitje Eertmoed at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived for a short time in South Dakota and then came back to Iowa. They have spent nearly all of their married life on their present farm northeast of Steamboat Rock.

They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on November 23, 1965 at their home with their family and friends. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on October 5, 1919.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Grietje, 3 daughters and 1 son, Miss Anna Doolaard, Steamboat Rock, Cornelius J. Doolaard of Steamboat Rock, (Nellie) Mrs. Elmer Heetland of Ackley, Miss Jennie Doolaard of Steamboat Rock; 3 grandsons and many other relatives and friends.
