Lena Nederhoff Rites Aug. 30th
Services for Mrs. Lena B. Nederhoff, 88, were held Monday, August 30 at 1 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and then at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Harold Hollander officiated. Music was by Richard Schafer and Lary Riebkes with Mrs. Henry L. Vandevoort as organist. Mrs. Harvey Eiten and Mrs. Carl J. Nederhoff took care of flowers and casket bearers were Ted Van Deest, Melvin Nederhoff, Edward R. Boyenga, William P. Riekena, Alvin Lutterman and Albert Eertmoed. Interment was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Nederhoff passed away around 5 o'clock Friday morning, August 27, at the Eldora Community Hospital due to complications of advanced age. She had entered the hospital on August 14th for treatment.
She was born on a farm in Shiloh township, northwest of Wellsburg, on November 3, 1882, the daughter of Berend and Greitje (Ohden) Riekena. She attended the rural school in the area. On March 6, 1902, she was united in marriage to Ebbo H. Nederhoff at the home of her parents. Following their marriage they moved to a farm 2 miles west of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with 3 sons. Mr. Nederhoff passed away on Feb. 25, 1934.
She was a member of the Fist Christian Reformed Church, having made confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on December 29, 1935. She was a member of the Ladies Guild of the Church.
Those preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one son, Henry E. Nederhoff who passed away May 3, 1960; 1 great-grandson, Allen Dean Van Deest; 4 brothers: Wiert, Peter, Joe and Gratus Riekena; 3 sisters: (Gepka), Mrs. Alle Eertmoed, (Frederika), Mrs. John Mennenga, and (Frauke), Mrs. Albert Lutterman.
She is survived by 2 sons, Ben E. Nederhoff of Wellsburg; Theodore E. Nederhoff of Wellsburg; her three daughter-in-laws, (Anna) Mrs. Henry E. Nederhoff of Ackley, (Luella) Mrs. Ben Nederhoff of Wellsburg, (Louise) Mrs. Theodore Nederhoff of Wellsburg; one sister, Mrs. Antje Geerdes of Steamboat Rock; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
