Last Rites for Anna Riebkes Are Held Here
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Riebkes were held on Wednesday, May 30, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Officiating were Pastor John Gorter and Pastor Orwin Duistermars.
Alfred Eiten, soloist, sang two selections. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist.
Flower attendants were Mrs. Kenneth Adams and Mrs. Bernard Reents.
Pallbearers were Jon Riebkes, Rodney Riebkes, Michael Eiklenborg, Allan Eiklenborg, Gregory Riebkes, and LaVern Wolff. Honorary pallbearers were Craig Riebkes, Jack Schaffner, and Steve Dubiel. All pallbearers are grandsons of Mrs. Riebkes.
The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of Doyen Funeral Home.
Mrs. Riebkes passed away Sunday afternoon, May 27, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to a massive heart attack. She had been taken to the hospital on the previous Friday evening. She reached the age of 80 years, 8 months and 17 days.
She was born on a farm in German township, northwest of Wellsburg, on September 10, 1903, the daughter of Meint K. and Anna (VanLoh) Huesman and received her education in the rural school in the area.
On December 30, 1925, she was married to John J. Riebkes at the home of her parents. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm near Ackley for 15 years. In March of 1941 they moved to a farm northwest of Wellsburg. Her husband passed away on January 24, 1955, at the age of 51.
Mrs. Riebkes was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having joined by letter of transfer on August 9, 1942, from the West Friesland Presbyterian Church of rural Ackley. She also was a member of the Ladies Guild of the Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, four sisters, Mrs. Jennie Johnson, Mrs. Mary Janssen, Mrs. Lydia DeBoer, Mrs. Leona Spencer, and one brother, Jans Huesman.
Those left to mourn her passing are four sons and one daughter, Elmer John Riebkes and his wife, Betty of Alden; Melvin Dale Riebkes and his wife, Agnes of Cedar Falls; Sylvia Eiklenborg and her husband, Norman of Aplington; Lary Andrew Riebkes and his wife, Rozella of Wellsburg; Leland Dean Riebkes and his wife, Judy of Wellsburg; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Klaas Huesman of Ackley; four sisters, Mrs. Herman (Tena) Boelts of Ackley, Miss Lizzie Huesman of Ackley, Mrs. Fred (Esther) Janssen of Ackley, Mrs. Joe (Johanna) Janssen of Cedar Falls; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jans (Ella) Huesman of Ackley; two brothers-in-law, George DeBoer of Aplington, Lucas Spencer of Cedar Rapids and many other relatives and friends.
