Services Held Monday For Bessie Bleeker

Mrs. Bessie Bleeker passed away early Friday morning, July 13, 1984, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. She reached the age of 75 years, 7 months and 26 days.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg with Rev. John Gorter officiating.

Providing the special music were the Messengers, Arnold Eiten, Melvin Haupt, Lary Riebkes and Richard Schafer. Karen Meyer was pianist and Elizabeth Eekhoff the organist.

Pallbearers were Don Geerdes, Wesley Harms, Gregory Geerdes, Brad Larson, Randy Roegner and Evan Anderson. Chris Christians and David Miller served as ushers.

She was born on November 17, 1908, the daughter of George and Antje (Riekena) Geerdes. On October 8, 1951 she was married to Evert Bleeker. They moved to Ackley in April of 1970. Mr. Bleeker passed away June 13, 1979. She spent the past few years living at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley.

Bessie was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, becoming a member by baptism on January 11, 1920. She made confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on October 5, 1933. She was a member of the Queen Esther Circle for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and a brother, Jake Geerdes.

Survivors include four brothers, Ben G. G. Geerdes, Wellsburg; Gratus Geerdes, Ackley; Edward Geerdes, Ackley; and Alfred Geerdes, Gladbrook; two sisters, Verna (Mrs. Abe) Wilts of Ackley, and Freda (Mrs. George) Harms of Steamboat Rock; many nephews and nieces.
