Funeral Held Saturday For Mrs. Eckhoff
Mrs. Hilda Eckhoff passed away Thursday morning, February 25 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to an apparent heart attack. She reached the age of 67 years, two months and 15 days.
Funeral services for Mrs. Eckhoff were held on Saturday, February 27 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church west of Wellsburg. Rev. John Gorter officiated.
Alfred Eiten was soloist and was accompanied by Mrs. Jack Bakker, organist. Mrs. James Heikens and Mrs. Steve Nielsen were flower attendants.
Pall bearers were Wendell Giesking, Edward Christians, Lee Geiken, Gordon Geerdes, Richard Schafer and Arnold Eiten. Burial was in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.
She was born Hilda Jacobena Geiken on December 10, 1914, in Hardin county, the daughter of Martin and Anna (Miller) Geiken. She received her education in the rural schools in the area.
On September 14, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harry Eckhoff at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, by the Rev. Calvin Siemsen. They lived on a farm southwest of Wellsburg.
This union was blessed with one son and two daughters.
In February of 1979 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.
Mrs. Eckhoff became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, by transfer of membership from the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church on April 30, 1939. She was a member of the Ladies Guild of the church.
Preceding her in death were: her father and one brother, Jake Geiken.
Those left to mourn her passing are: her husband, Harry Eckhoff of Wellsburg; one son, Duane Eckhoff of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Betty) Rozeboom of Rock Valley, Iowa; Mrs. Harold (Beverly) DeJager of Orange City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Anna Geiken of the Presbyterian Home in Ackley; three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Carl (Kate) Giesking of Grundy Center, Mrs. Chris (Jennie) Christians of Wellsburg, Mrs. Robert (Marian) Funnell of Grundy Center, Elwood Geiken of Ackley and many other relatives and friends.
Doyen Funeral Home were in charge of the arrangements.
