Marine Betts, 95, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Villa Del Sol, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2012, at Hope United Methodist Church, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the services at the church. Interment will be at First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in Wellsburg, IA. Arrangements are entrusted to the Main St. Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes.

Marine was born September 3, 1917 in Wellsburg to William and Gertie Bakker. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1934, and then attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan for one year. She graduated from the former Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown, from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and attended Iowa State University in Ames. For many years she worked at the Marshalltown Hospital including eleven years as Associate Director Nursing Service. In 1969 she was employed as Director of Nursing Education and Health Sciences at the Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa for eleven years. She and her husband lived in Ames, Iowa from 1969 to 1983 when they retired in Marshalltown. She is a member of Hope United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Iowa Quilters Guild.

Marine is survived by a daughter Gaile (Larry) Collum, Marshalltown, seven Grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband Robert in 1991, her son, Russell in 2008, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
