Elma Mae Schaa

Elma Mae Schaa, 89, a longtime Grundy Center resident, died February 28, 1999, at Conway, AR. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 9, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with Rev. Michael Nemmers officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Born May 19, 1909, in Grundy Center, she was the daughter of Ira B. and Ethel Bloxham Rouse. She graduated Grundy Center High School in 1926 and went on to teach in the rural schools until her marriage to Heye B. Schaa on May 19, 1931. She was active in the Grundy Center Baptist Church as well as other organizations including the Grundy Center PTA, Women's Club, and Grundy County Cancer Society.

The couple moved to Cherokee Village, AR, in 1973 where she continued her involvement with the church and the American Cancer Society. In 1985, the couple moved to Conway.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers, Elden and Floyd Rouse.

Survivors include a son, James and his wife Ann of Conway, AR; grandchildren Bruce and Ruth Ann Schaa; one sister, Mrs. R. G. (Neta) Lynn, Grundy Center; one brother, Russell, Columbia, MO; three sisters-in-law; eight nieces; three nephews; and an uncle, Lester Bloxham.

A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
