Edward G. Beenken, 82, of Waverly, died at his home on April 6, 1999 of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 9 at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Dan Herndon and Pastor Nate Frazee officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Edward was born on February 2, 1917, in Stout the son of Lutjen and Mildred (Sink) Beenken. He attended country school in rural Grundy County.

On March 1, 1938 he was united in marriage to Neola Marie Bloxham in Waterloo. The couple lived in the Conrad and Waterloo areas and in 1953 they started farming northeast of Waterloo. In 1968 they moved to a farm north of Artesian. On January 1, 1976 the couple retired and moved into Waverly.

Neola died on January 28, 1986. Edward was then married to Arvilla Ragsdale at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. She died on October 2, 1988.

Edward was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. Throughout the years, Edward enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.

Edward is survived by one son and his spouse, Joe and Sheryl Beenken of Waverly; one daughter, Susan Beenken of Ankeny; one granddaughter and her spouse, Valorie and Tom Wilson of Provo, UT; one great-grandchild, Olivia; a special friend and companion over the past eight years, Gesina True of Waverly; one brother, Harvey Beenken of Grundy Center; five sisters, Lena Anderson of Waverly; Lavina Martin of Anamosa, Clara Delk of Marshalltown, Pearl Hartgrave of Cedar Rapids, and Katharina Ridder of New Hartford; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Neloa; his second wife, Arvilla; three brothers, Lutjen, Alfred and Wilbur Beenken; and four sisters, Anna Mae Clemens, Mildred Katzer, Mariam Bohlen and Leta Gerloff.

Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly was in charge of the arrangements.
