Elmer Geiter Dead From Heart Attack
Elmer H. Geiter, age 73, of Grundy Center, passed away at his home at 4 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 1981 of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 29 at the United Methodist Church, Grundy Center, with the Rev. David L. Nelson and Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiating. Mrs. Gus DeLange sang "Good Night and Good Morning" and "How Great Thou Art." She was accompanied by Mrs. Jack Stumberg who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Casket bearers were Charles Mooty Jr., Harold Mooty, Ted Meinert, Clarence Brown, Charles Baldwin and Howard Davis. Francis Winslow and Warren Feller served as ushers. Mrs. Virginia Schultz and Mrs. George Rohwer were in charge of floral arrangements. Joe D. Ross and John Klosterboer provided their cars for the family's use.
Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Grundy Center. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.
Mr. Geiter was born on February 8, 1908 in Washington township, Grundy County, Ia. He attained the age of 73 years, 10 months and 18 days.
He was the son of Ralph W. and Margaret Eisenhower Geiter. Elmer grew up on the family farm. On March 30, 1937 in Grundy Center he was united in marriage to Marlys Rehder. After their marriage they farmed the family farm. On December 17, 1969, his wife passed away. He retired from farming in 1969. On June 22, 1971, he was married to Mildred Mills Hawley. They made their home in Grundy Center. He was baptized and a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center and a member of the Masonic lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Marlys, and one sister, Ruth.
He is survived by his second wife, Mildred; one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Betty Geiter of RR2, Grundy Center; one grandson, Jeff Geiter, two step-sons, Roger Hawley of Bloomington, MN and Richard Hawley of Tucson, Arizona; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Donald (Joan) Ammerman of Washburn, IA; 9 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
