Ethel Stumberg, Age 75, Dead

Mrs. Ethel D. Stumberg, age 75, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 1982 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since December 26, 1981.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 13 at 10 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiating. Mrs. Arlan Schaap sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden." She was accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Appel who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Grandsons of Mrs. Stumberg served as pallbearers. They were Michael Stumberg, Bryan Stumberg, Todd Stumberg, Curtis Stumberg, Douglas Stumberg, Carl Graves, Norman Stumberg, Duane Dybevik, Randy Stumberg and Steve Stumberg. Edward Flater and Lloyd Dreesman served as ushers. Mrs. Bill Harken and Mrs. Jim Pieters were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery, Grundy Center.

Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.

Mrs. Stumberg was born on March 9, 1906 in Allentown, IL, the daughter of John L. and Margaret Blackford Ash. She attained the age of 75 years, 10 months and one day. On August 5, 1920 in Grundy Center, she was united in marriage to Jacob S. Stumberg. He passed away on June 28, 1940. In 1948 she started working for the Grundy Center Community Schools in the laundry department and retired in November of 1980.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, one great-grandson and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by five sons, Donald of Raymond, IA, Raymond of Trinidad, CO, Robert (Jake) of Vero Beach, FL; and Irvin (Porky) and Jack of Grundy Center; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Dybevik of Waterloo, Mrs. Donald (LaVonne) Stirler of Reinbeck and Mrs. Donald (Marian) Graves of Buffalo, IL; one brother, Erwin Ash of Grundy Center, eight sisters, Mrs. Pearl Aswegan, Mrs. Susie Gideon, and Mrs. Ellen Aswegan, all of Grundy Center; Mrs. Hazel Pepperling of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Margaret Aswegan of Stout, Mrs. Bernice Bransted of Klemme, Mrs. Mary Swenson of Lake Mills and Mrs. June Jacobson of MN; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
