Emma Claassen Services Held

Mrs. Emma Grimmius Claassen, age 65, of Grundy Center, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, July 25, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Graveside committal services were held Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Grundy Center with the Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiating. Mrs. Bill Harken and Mrs. Bernard Eilderts were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Mrs. Claassen was born on April 30, 1916 in Grundy Center. She attained the age of 65 years, 2 months and 25 days. She was the daughter of Amos and Jessie Kruger Pabst. She grew up in Grundy Center.

On December 23, 1934 in Waterloo, Ia., she was united in marriage to Joe Grimmius. He passed away on December 25, 1950. From 1960 until 1970 she worked at Western Dressing, but had to quit due to failing health. On May 3, 1971 she was united in marriage to Harold Claassen in Traer, Ia. He passed away on June 25, 1975. She became a resident of Long Term Care Unit on May 19, 1981. Emma was a very ambitious woman who worked hard to support her family and maintain her home. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first and second husbands and three brothers.

Those left to mourn her passing are one son, Gene Grimmius of RR1, Marshalltown; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Mackie of RR1, Grundy Center; one brother, Ralph (Amos) Pabst of Grundy Center; and five grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
