Ray Slifer, 75, Died Sunday
Ray J. Slifer, 75, died at his home at 412 M Avenue, Grundy Center, Sunday evening, February 5, 1978 from an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf of the Bethany Presbyterian church officiated. Taped organ musical interludes were played for the prelude and postlude. Mrs. Lucille Dixon and Mrs. John Albright took care of the floral arrangements. Pall bearers were Ivan Slifer, Donald Peters, Ray Peters, Roger Slifer, Eldon Ruppelt, and Robert Riebkes. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Grundy Center.
Ray was born February 15, 1902 in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Kate Johnson Slifer. He grew up and made his home in Grundy Center all of his life. He was employed by the Iowa State Highway Commission until 1945. After that he was self-employed as a painter in this area until his retirement in 1970.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Irma Peters of Reinbeck and Mrs. Carl (Dorothy) Ruppelt of Steamboat Rock, and two brothers, Asa and Art Slifer of Grundy Center.
A memorial fund has been established.
