Mrs. Korthous Dies At County Hospital
Mrs. John (Tena) Korthous, 79, died at 6:20 p.m. Sunday at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for six days.
Death was due to complications of her age.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. John L. Lewis officiating.
Pallbearers were Charles Michel, Dale Bee, Rient Beenken, Warren Feller, Chester Stewart and Jake Kiewiet. Merle Mamminga sang, accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Appel.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Grundy Center.
She was born November 10, 1893, in George, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Anna Reiter. She came to the Wellsburg area in January, 1916, and married John H. Korthous of Grundy Center on September 27, 1916.
The couple made their home at Grundy Center. Mr. Korthous passed away October 17, 1965.
In May, 1966, she became a resident of the Storey Custodial Home, Grundy Center, until she entered the hospital on November 7.
Mrs. Korthous is survived by one son, John, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Henrietta) Beenken Sr. of Grundy Center, and Mrs. Anna Mae Merrill of Waterloo; one brother, Pete Reiter of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Hayenga of Guelph, N. Dak.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, one daughter, one great-granddaughter, and several brothers and sisters.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
