Dick Niehaus, 87, Dies Tuesday
Dick Kasper Niehaus, 87, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 7 at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center, where he had resided since March 1, 1972.
Memorial services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Bethany Presbyterian church with Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Grundy Center.
He was born December 26, 1884 in Bunde, Ostfriesland, Germany, the son of Casper and Johanna Okken Niehaus. The family came to America in 1890 and settled in the Conrad area, Grundy county, Iowa. He was married to Anna Wolthoff January 18, 1905 in Reinbeck. They moved to the Grundy Center area in 1915. His wife died December 1, 1928. He lived in the Dike area at the time of his marriage to Bertha Tonnesen on February 5, 1954. She died September 24, 1961. He continued to live at Dike until 1969 when he moved to Waterloo. He lived there until coming to Grundy Center this year.
Survivors include one son, C. W. Niehaus, Grundy Center; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Ahrenholz, Grundy Center, and Mrs. Henry (Marian) Pruisner of Waterloo, three stepchildren, George Tonnesen of Dike, Mrs. Alice Jensen of Warrington, Fla. and Mrs. R. L. Scott of New Orleans, La., 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, 1 granddaughter, 1 great-grandchild, one brother and four sisters.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
