Henry Hartke Dies Sunday Morning In Iowa City Hospital

Funeral services for Henry Hartke, 66, of Grundy Center, were held Wednesday at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home with burial in the Grundy Center cemetery.

The Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiated.

Mr. Hartke died Sunday morning at University Hospitals in Iowa City of lung cancer. He had been a patient for five days.

Henry Hartke was born July 14, 1905, in Grundy Center, the son of August and Grace Barkhoff Hartke.

He was employed for many years by Harold K. Wilson of Grundy Center.

Survivors include his mother, of the Storey Custodial Home, Grundy Center; six brothers and two sisters, Fred of Cedar Falls, Miss Christine Hartke of Cedar Falls, Enno of Council Bluffs, Bill of Dubuque, Mrs. Trena Lowder of New Bedford, Ill., John of Des Moines, Louis and Melvin of Grundy Center.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Pallbearers were John Beenken, James Bienfang, William Groote, Harvey Kimball, John Klosterboer, and Richard Smith.
