Saturday Rites For John Clark

John Clark, 92, who had been a resident of Grundy Center all of his life, passed away Wednesday evening, March 10, at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center, where he had resided since October 16, 1966.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Bryant of the United Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery at Grundy Center. Mrs. Trevillyan provided organ music. Pallbearers were the nine grandsons, Marvin Donald, John, Charles, George, Edwin "Ted", Robert, William, Paul and James Clark.

Mr. Clark was born on a farm in Palermo township, north of the Grundy Center cemetery on December 3, 1878, the son of Albert and Mary Troutman Clark. He graduated from the Grundy Center high school in 1899. On March 19, 1902 he was united in marriage with Winifred Kelly at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Kelly in Grundy Center. He was employed by the Standard Oil Company for sometime and for several years he and his wife operated a nursing home in Grundy Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Naomi Davendorf of South Pasadena, Florida, three sons, Marvin of Waterloo, Delbert of Grundy Center and Lucius of Moorhead, Minn., also 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ada Gleeson of Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, George, two great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Clark was a member of the United Methodist church.
