Rites Monday for Mrs. J. E. Rose

Mrs. J. E. Rose, 54, wife of Dr. J. E. Rose, Grundy Center physician, died at her home Friday evening due to complications of hypertension. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Methodist church, with burial in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Phyllis Carpenter was born in Grundy Center May 2, 1905, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. H. Carpenter. She was graduated from Grundy Center high school in 1922 and attended Frances Shimer College in Mt. Carroll, Ill., for a period of two years.

She was graduated from Cornell College in 1926 and was married to Dr. Joseph E. Rose in Grundy Center on July 31, 1931. Dr. Rose began the practice of medicine in Grundy Center that same summer and they had continued to make their home here.

She was a past president of the Grundy Center Woman's Club and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Grundy Center all of her life and was very active in church work, having served as secretary of the Sunday School and assisted in other departments of the church.

In recent years she became very interested in Cub Scout work in the Boy Scout organization, and she served as a Den Mother for many of the Cub Scouts, two of whom were her boys. More than six of the boys from her Cub Scout Den later became Eagle Scouts.

Mrs. Rose had assisted her husband in his office until recent months when she remained at home due to her health.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, George and Wade, at home; a sister, Mrs. Robert Newberg of Des Moines; a brother, Dr. Erwin L Carpenter of Stamford, Conn.; and an aunt, Mrs. Maude Sheller of the Western Old People's Home, Cedar Falls.

Services Monday were conducted by Rev. E. E. Basye, pastor of the First Methodist church in Grundy Center. Vocal music was by Russell Kruse of Conrad, assisted by Mrs. Laura Trevillyan at the organ.
